چکیده

The quantitative determination of chlorophyll (Chl) a, Chl b, and carotenoids in a wholepigment extract of green plant tissue by UVVIS spectroscopy is complicated by the choice of sample, solvent system, and spectrophotometer used. The various plant pigments absorb light in overlapping spectral regions, depending on the system selected. This unit discusses methods used to account for such overlap by applying equations for accurate quantitative determination of Chl a, Chl b, and total carotenoids in the same pigment extract of leaves or fruits. General information on the spectroscopic characteristics of Chl a and Chl b, their specific absorption coefficients, and their quantitative determination in a whole-pigment extract of green plant tissues can be found in Šesták (1971) and Lichtenthaler (1987). For Chl structures, see UNIT F4.1.

Isolation of carotenoids from plant materials and dietary supplements by high-speed counter-current chromatography.

Methods for the isolation of lipophilic pigments from crude extracts of plant materials (spinach and sweet corn) by high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) were developed. Particular attention was given to (all-E)-lutein and (all-E)-zeaxanthin. However, the concomitant pigments neoxanthin, violaxanthin and beta-carotene as well as chlorophylls a and b were also considered. Furthermore...

Green Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles using Garlic skin extract and Its Characterization

Plant-mediated synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles is a promising alternative to the traditional method of physical and chemical synthesis. In this paper, we report the green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) by a biological method. During the study, Zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by Allium sativum skin (garlic skin) extract. Formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles has ...

Reflux condensation synthesis and characterization of Co3O4 nanoparticles for photocatalytic applications

In this research work, we report a simple method called reflux condensation method for synthesizing Co3O4 nanoparticles using cheap chemicals such as, cobalt acetate (precursor salt), sodium monododecyl sulphate - SDS (surfactant) and N, N - Dimethylformamide - DMF (solvent). The prepared materials were heat treated at 200, 400, 600 and 800 oC for each 2 h to get phase pure product. The calcine...
